Eligibility: Class VIII passed from a recognized school; valid Four-Wheeler Driving Licence
Experience: At least 2 years' experience of driving in any Government organization / Quasi Government organization / Registered Pvt. Ltd. Company etc.
Pay scale: Rs. 16,000/- per month (consolidated), subject to applicable statutory deductions

Selection process

Driving Test & Interview

Shortlisted candidates with valid applications are called for a Driving Test (20 marks) and Interview (20 marks). A merit list is prepared on marks obtained and published on the Howrah GRP website.

Medical Examination

Provisionally selected candidates must undergo a medical fitness test as directed by the competent authority.

Verification of Character and Antecedents

Selected candidates must submit a Police Clearance Certificate or undergo verification as prescribed by the competent authority at the time of joining.

How to Apply
1. Download the prescribed notice and application form from the West Bengal Police website (https://wbpolice.gov.in/) or the Howrah GRP website (https://howrahgrp.wb.gov.in/). 2. Print the application on white A4 size paper and fill it in CAPITAL LETTERS. 3. Paste one recent self-attested passport-size photograph (4.5 cm × 3.5 cm) on the top right of the application. 4. Attach self-attested copies of Aadhaar Card, Voter ID Card, PAN Card, Driving License, Educational Qualification certificates and Experience certificate, against the relevant serial numbers. 5. Submit the application personally in the DROP BOX, or send it by Speed Post, to the Office of the Superintendent of Railway Police, Howrah, 2nd Floor Yatri Niwas, New Complex, Howrah Rly Station, Howrah - 711101. 6. Write on the envelope: "APPLICATION FOR THE POST OF DRIVER (CONTRACTUAL), 2026".

Good to know before you apply
Temporary contract only The engagement is purely temporary and contractual for 1 (one) year from the date of execution of the contract. Renewal, if any, is subject to satisfactory performance and approval of the competent authority.
No absorption or regularization Contractual drivers cannot be absorbed into, or claim appointment to, the regular establishment of the Government. No claim for regularization in future will be entertained.
No TA/DA No TA/DA will be paid to candidates attending the Driving Test and Interview.
Canvassing leads to disqualification Canvassing in any form and/or bringing any influence will be treated as disqualification.
Shortlisting and incomplete applications If the number of applicants is much higher, the authority may shortlist applicants on the basis of educational qualification and driving experience. Incomplete applications without required documents will be rejected.
Right to cancel The competent authority reserves the absolute right to cancel the recruitment/engagement process at any stage without prior notice and without assigning any reason.
